Single Review
Ella Mai
“There Goes My Heart”
Released 06.02.2026

London-based singer Ella Mai has been carrying the weight of being one of the few traditional UK R&B singers on her shoulders. She broke through in 2018 with her sleeper hit ‘Boo’d Up’, followed by the banger ‘Trip’. These songs set the tone for a career rooted in timeless R&B. Now, the Grammy-winning artist is back to once again champion UK R&B with her third album, Do You Still Love Me?

The album is home to three previously released singles: ‘Tell Her’, ‘100’, and ‘Little Things’. The latter originally appeared on her 3 EP, released in 2024, and quickly became one of our most-played songs of the year. We’re more than happy to see it included on the album — it truly deserves all the recognition it can get.

Today, we want to highlight our favourite track on the album. Opening song ‘There Goes My Heart’ hits all the right spots. Ella Mai reunites with longtime collaborator Mustard, the producer behind her hits, making it no surprise that the duo once again deliver pure R&B gold.

The track opens with a classic piano and finger-snap intro before a ticking clock subtly enters the production. Ella tries to fight falling in love, resisting it in every possible way — but her heart wins in the end. She lays her vulnerability bare, admitting she doesn’t want to fall hard again, yet knows she can’t stop it from happening. As she sings, “No more second-guessin’, I won’t fight it in the end. You captured my heart, you win.”
