Singer Samm Henshaw released his brand new album It Could Be Worse last week. The 31-year-old artist from South London has been steadily releasing music since 2015, when he dropped his debut track ‘Only Wanna Be With You’. In the years that followed, Henshaw put out several EPs before releasing his first full-length album in 2022. Fast forward to 2026, and we’re now being treated to his sophomore record.

Henshaw is known for his seamless blend of soul, R&B and gospel. Gospel, in particular, runs deep: he grew up singing in church, with his father serving as a pastor. You can hear that upbringing in his music — it feels comforting and welcoming, like a warm hug. His voice carries a familiar richness, occasionally reminiscent of John Legend, which can only be taken as a compliment.

Today, we’d like to highlight one standout track from the album: ‘Closer’.
